Field notes
Field notes from the glade
Short, honest write-ups of the things families ask us once the box is open: how the first week with clay really goes, how to keep it soft, how to paint it, and how to choose between clay and blocks when you cannot ask the child.

Four notes
Everything we have written down so far
Air dry clay for kids: what the first week actually looks like
What air dry clay for kids is really like in the first week: seven days with a five-year-old, written down honestly, so you know what to expect before the bag is open.
Read the note →Keeping clay soft between sessions, and reviving it when it is not
Storage is the whole difference between a material that lasts a season and one that lasts a weekend.
Read the note →Painting and finishing dried clay without ruining it
What actually sticks, what lifts off, and why white clay is the quiet workhorse of the whole range.
Read the note →Clay or blocks: choosing a gift when you do not know the child well
A short decision tree for aunts, uncles and anyone buying for a birthday party next Saturday.
Read the note →Written from use, not from the box
Every note here comes out of sitting with the material: a week of clay with a five-year-old, a bag that went stiff and came back, a painted model that survived being carried to school. We write down what happened, including the parts that went badly, because those are the parts that are hard to find anywhere else.
If a note disagrees with the printing on a box, the note is what we stand behind. If you find one of them wrong, tell us and we will fix it in the next rebuild rather than argue.
